ROCHESTER, NY -- Sophomore forward #Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)# of the RIT women's basketball team has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Women's Basketball First Team as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, student-athletes must possess at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or significant reserve, and be at least a sophomore academically. As first team selections, Wheeler and Scanlon will advance to the national Academic All-America ballot.

Wheeler has started all 18 games for the Tigers this season. She currently ranks second on the team in both scoring (11.8 points per game) and rebounding (7.2 points per game) while leading RIT with 28 blocked shots. Wheeler has led RIT in scoring four times this season, including a career-best 27 points in a 67-60 overtime win over St. John Fisher on Dec. 11. A biomedical engineering major, Wheeler is a member of the Liberty League's All-Academic team.
