Women's soccer standouts Alexa and Jamie Martinez earn 2012 NSCAA All-Region honors

ROCHESTER, NY -- Junior co-captains Alexa Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) and Jamie Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) of the RIT women's soccer team were named to the 2012 NSCAA Division III All-East Region team that was announced on Wednesday afternoon. Jamie Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) was a first team All-East Region selection, while Alexa Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) was a second team selection.

Jamie Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) anchored a RIT defense that was third in the Liberty League, allowing 0.78 goals per game. A first team All-Liberty League selection in 2012, Martinez started all 19 games for the Tigers. She and the RIT defense allowed just 15 goals in 19 games in 2012, including eight shutouts.

Alexa Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel), a first-team All-Liberty League selection in 2012, anchored RIT's midfield unit, starting every game in 2012 for the Tigers. She finished the season with four points on a goal and two assists. Her lone goal was the game-winner versus then No. 4 Ithaca in a 1-0 win over the previously undefeated Bombers on Oct. 27. She helped the RIT offense average 1.52 goals per game, while helping solidify a Tigers defense that allowed 0.78 goals per game.

The Tigers finished the 2012 season with an 11-5-3 record, earning a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in the program's 31-year history.
