Mike Colavecchia and Alexander Kuqali pick up Atlantic Hockey Association weekly honors

ROCHESTER, NY - Junior forward Mike Colavecchia (Maple, Ontario/Lindsay Muskies) and freshman defenseman Alexander Kuqali (Pittsburgh, PA/Sioux City Musketeers) of the RIT men's hockey team earned Atlantic Hockey Association weekly honors on Monday, for the week ending Dec. 9, 2012. Colavecchia was named the AHA Player of the Week, while Kuqali earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Colavecchia continued his mastery over Sacred Heart by recording six points on three goals and three assists in a weekend sweep of the Pioneers. On Friday, Colavecchia scored a pair of goals and added an assist in a 5-3 win over Sacred Heart. Just 24 hours later, he scored the eventual game-winning goal and dished out two assists in a 5-2 win over Sacred Heart. Colavecchia has 11 points on seven goals and four assists in his last four games against Sacred Heart. Overall, he has 11 points on five goals and six assists in 10 games this season. Colavecchia is on the verge of moving into the top-10 all-time at RIT in career scoring at the Division I level. He has 62 career points on 25 goals and 37 assists in 84 games.

Kuqali scored his first two collegiate goals, while adding a pair of assists for four points, while playing at a plus-2, as RIT earned a weekend sweep over Sacred Heart. On Friday, Kuqali scored his first collegiate goal in the second period and added two assists for a career-best three points, while playing at plus-2 in a 5-3 win over the Pioneers. On Saturday, Kuqali opened the scoring with a power-play goal and was a rock on defense, as the Tigers won by a score of 5-2. Kuqali has become a valuable asset on the blue-line for the Tigers and has five points on two goals and three assists, while playing in all 15 games.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, as they travel to face No; 16 Niagara at Dwyer Arena. The contest begins at 7:05 p.m. and will be aired on Time Warner Cable Sports channel 26 or 1026 for high definition subscribers.
