ROCHESTER, NY - Seniors
Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) and
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) of the RIT volleyball team were named to the 2012 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-New York Region team on Thursday. Sullivan was a first team pick, while Worth was an honorable mention selection. Sullivan also earned AVCA Honorable Mention All-American accolades.
Sullivan, a middle hitter, was named to the 2012 All-Liberty League first team last week. Previously, she was a 2011 All-Liberty League honorable mention and Co-SIDA/Capital One Academic All-Region selection. This season, Sullivan led the Liberty League and is 25th nationally with a .362 hitting percentage and also led the conference with 118 blocks (0.9/set). She finished second on the squad with 311 kills. Sullivan recorded at least 10 kills in a match 13 times this season and hit .400 or better in 20 matches. Her 321 career assisted blocks are fourth most all-time at the university. She was named MVP of the RIT Invitational, earned All-Tournament team honors in all six tournaments the Tigers have competed in this year, and was the Liberty League and ECAC Upstate Player of the Week on Sept. 17.
Worth, RIT's setter, was named to the 2012 All-Liberty League second team last week. Previously, she was a 2011 All-Liberty League honorable mention and 2010 All-Empire 8 second team selection. This season, Worth placed third in the conference, averaging 8.8 assists per set. She finished her tremendous career with 4,420 career assists, fourth most all-time at the university. In addition, Worth recorded a career-high 118 kills and is hitting .344 with 216 digs, 57 blocks, and 39 service aces. On Oct. 12, Worth dished out a career-best 54 assists against Skidmore. She slammed a career-best nine kills to go along with 46 assists in a win over Houghton on Sept. 8. Worth recorded at least 30 kills in a match 18 times this season and 84 times in her career. She was named to the RIT Invitational, Elmira Invitational, and New York State Regional Challenge All-Tournament teams.
RIT finished the 2012 season with a 26-15 record and advanced to the Liberty League Semifinals.
