ROCHESTER, NY - Sophomore diver
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) and freshman swimmer
Alex Madar (Suffern, NY/Suffern) of the RIT men's swimming and diving team were named the Liberty League Diver and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday, for the week ending Nov. 4, 2012. It is the first weekly honor for both RIT student-athletes.
Tellgren led the RIT diving sweep on the afternoon in the close win over Alfred on Saturday. He won the 3-meter over teammates
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) and
Billy Werksman (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) with a score of 283.05, then took the 1-meter in the same order of finish with a score of 275.25.
Madar won both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events for the Tigers in Saturday's close win over Alfred on Saturday and was also part of the winning 200-medley relay. He won the 100-breaststrokein a time of 1:03.35. Madar won the 200-breaststroke by just under three seconds in 2:21.51. Madar swam second in the 200-medley relay and was part of the winning team that recorded a time of 1:40.39.
RIT returns to action on Saturday with a dual meet at home against St. Lawrence that gets underway at 1 p.m.
