Volleyball standouts Suzanne Jokajtys and Cat Sullivan earn 2012 Co/SIDA-Capital One Academic All-Region honors

ROCHESTER, NY - Seniors Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) and Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) of the RIT volleyball team were named to the 2012 Co-SIDA/Capital One Academic All-New York Region team. Both women are eligible for Academic All-American honors, which will be selected later in the month. Jokajtys has an impressive 3.98 grade-point average in biomedical sciences, while Sullivan has a 3.94 grade-point average in computer science and computational math.

Jokajtys, an outside hitter, recorded career-highs with 246 kills and 164 digs, to go along with 32 blocks. She slammed career-high totals of 16 kills and added 15 digs in win over SUNYIT earlier in the season and hit .600 with 13 kills in a four-set win over NYU at the RIT Invitational. Jokajtys recorded at least 10 kills in a match nine times in 2012. On the academic side, Jokajtys is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection, RIT Presidential scholar, and Nathaniel Rochester scholar. In addition, she was nominated for Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar in the college of Health Sciences and Technology and is a nine-time Dean's List recipient.

Sullivan, a middle hitter, continues to earn local and national honors. Last week, she was named to the 2012 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-New York Region team. Earlier in the month, Sullivan was named to the 2012 All-Liberty League first team last week. Previously, she was a 2011 All-Liberty League honorable mention and Co-SIDA/Capital One Academic All-Region selection. This season, Sullivan led the Liberty League and is 25th nationally with a .362 hitting percentage and also led the conference with 118 blocks (0.9/set). She finished second on the squad with 311 kills. Sullivan recorded at least 10 kills in a match 13 times this season and hit .400 or better in 20 matches. Her 321 career assisted blocks are fourth most all-time at the university. She was named MVP of the RIT Invitational, earned All-Tournament team honors in all six tournaments the Tigers have competed in this year, and was the Liberty League and ECAC Upstate Player of the Week on Sept. 17. Academically, she was nominated for RIT's Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar Award, is nine-time Dean's List recipient, and two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection.
