WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The RIT wrestling team improved to 4-3 in dual meets on the season, opening the 2012 calendar year with a pair of wins at the NY/PA Duals hosted by Lycoming College on Saturday afternoon. RIT dispatched King's 30-16 in the opening match, then used a pin by #
Nick Stewart (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin)# in the final match to turn a 16-13 deficit into a 19-16 win over host Lycoming.
The match against Lycoming was tight the entire way, with Lycoming jumping out to a 10-3 lead, then RIT battling back to score the next 10 points to go up 13-10. Lycoming won two close matches to go back up 16-13, setting the stage for Stewart's heroics. Stewart, who wrestles at 285 lbs., was able to pin Samuel Batchelor at 1:56 to give RIT the decisive six points for the win.
In the opening match, RIT won five of the first six matches to jump out to a commanding 24-6 lead and never look back.

Tory Cain (Ontario, NY/Wayne)# won both of their matches on the afternoon for RIT. Bruce, wrestling at 133 lbs., defeated Travis Boardman of King's 12-7, then earned a 6-3 decision over Christan Conger of Lycoming. Sercu earned a technical fall win over Gordon Custer of King's then won a 6-2 decision over Brian Watkins of Lycoming, both at 157 lbs. Cain pinned Zachary Grey of Kings, then defeated Greg Wetzel of Lycoming, 7-3 at 165 lbs.
