ROCHESTER, NY - Senior goaltender
Shane Madolora (Salinas, CA/) of the RIT men's hockey was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Goalie of the Week on Monday for the week ending Jan. 22, 2012. It is Madolora's second straight weekly honor, fourth of the season, and ninth in the last two years.
Madolora was brilliant in net for the Tigers, stopping 62-of-63 shots in leading the Tigers to a weekend sweep of Bentley. On Friday, Madolora stopped all 26 shots he faced for his third straight shutout, while also recording an assist in a 2-0 win over the Falcons. On Saturday, Madolora made 36 saves, including 14 in the third period, leading the Tigers to a 2-1 win over the Falcons. He had his program record shutout streak snapped at 211:01, but earned his fourth straight win, improving to 12-4-1 this season.
Madolora is third nationally with a .935 save percentage, fourth with a 1.82 goals against average and tied for first with six shutouts. In AHA play, he leads all goalies with a 1.39 goals against average and .951 save percentage. Madolora has four shutouts in his last six starts.
The Tigers return home for the first time in nearly two months, as they host AHA leader Mercyhurst at Ritter Arena on Friday and Saturday. Both contests get underway at 7:05 p.m.
