ROCHESTER, NY – Head Coach #Scott McDonald and the RIT women's hockey team have announced the captains for the 2011-12 season. Junior (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)# will serve as the captain, while juniors #Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder)#, and #Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects)# will serve as assistant captains for the Tigers this upcoming season.

“Each of these women leads by example and their play has earned them a role as captain,” said McDonald, who enters his sixth season. “That leadership is what we've thrived off of in the past. ”

Last season, Schlattman appeared in 30 games recording 26 points on seven goals and 19 assists. She tallied a point in seven of the first 10 contests, including a hat-trick against Potsdam on Nov. 19. She was named to the 2011 ECAC West All-Academic Team.

Hiller, a forward made large strides in the 2010-11 season, tallying 37 points, fourth most for RIT, on 10 goals and 27 assists. She tallied eight points in the last four contests of the season in tournament play, including six assists. Hiller was named to the 2011 ECAC West All-Academic Team, and recorded her first collegiate hat-trick in a win over Utica on Nov. 13.

Yokoyama led all of Division III in assists with 33, and contributed nine multiple point games. Yokoyama was named to the ECAC West Championship All-Tournament Team and was also an ECAC West honorable mention selection, after finishing the year with 13 points in the last nine games.

“Kim (Schlattman) was outstanding as an assistant captain this past season,” said McDonald, RIT's all-time leader in coaching wins with 107. “The progress she's made from her freshman year until now is exceptional and she sets a great example for the team. Tenecia (Hiller) had a breakout year this past season due to her commitment to improvement. She has earned the respect of her team and is deserving of the assistant captain position. Ariane (Yokoyama) exhibits a strong work ethic on and off the ice. She is team-oriented over individual gain. She will play any position, at any time, and not think twice about it.”

RIT enjoyed its finest season in program history, advancing to the Championship Game after setting a team record of 23 straight unbeaten games. The Tigers finished 2010-11 with a 26-2-2 record and were ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation.
