ROCHESTER, NY -- Eight members of the RIT men's lacrosse team were named to the 2011 Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference team which was announced on Thursday. Seniors
Kelso Davis (Freeport, ME/Deerfield Academy),
Jordan MacIntosh (Oakville, ON/Holy Trinity) and
MJ Kiekebelt (Caledon, Ontario/St. Andrews College/Aurora) were first team selections.
Tyler Russell (Livonia, NY/Livonia),
Eric Horeth (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Bob Tonnessen (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) were second team selections, while
Jordan Collins-Hartwig (Buffalo, NY/Clarence) was a honorable mention pick.
Chris Cherami (Olwick, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) was RIT's Sportsman of the Year.
Davis is third on the team in scoring with 46 points on 28 goals and 18 assists. In eight Empire 8 conferene games, Davis led all Empire 8 attackers in scoring with 33 points on 20 goals and 13 assists. He was the 36th player in program history to record 100 points and is currently ninth all-time in scoring with 137 career points.
MacIntosh repeats as an All-Empire 8 first team selection. The 2010 Empire 8 Co-Player of the Year is second on the team in scoring with 52 points on 39 goals and 23 assists. He is second with 59 ground balls and won 72-of-146 face-offs this season. In Empire 8 play, MacIntosh tallied 29 points on 14 goals and 15 assists and grabbed 40 ground balls.
Kiekebelt earns his third straight first team honor. This season, Kiekebelt leads the team with 96 ground balls and 44 caused turnovers, while chipping in 12 points on five goals and seven assists. In eight conference games, Kiekebelt has 56 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers to go along with three goals and six assists. He is seventh all-time at RIT with 303 career ground balls, and is one of only eight players in RIT history to scoop up 300 career ground balls. Kiekebelt has caused 149 turnovers in his illustrious career and is in the top-100 all time in scoring.
Tonnessen is 15-0 on the season with a 7.34 goals against average and a .592 save percentage. In eight conference games this season, the senior goalie has a 7.01 goals against average and a .590 save percentage. His 15 wins ties a school record for wins in a season and he is fifth all-time in wins with 30.
Russell has had a breakout season, leading the team in scoring with 55 points on 52 goals and three assists. The junior attack led all conference scorers with 32 goals in eight conference games. His 52 goals this season is sixth all-time at RIT for goals in a season.
Eric Horeth (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) was a key addition to RIT's defense this season. He helped the Tigers hold opponents to 7.40 goals per game while grabbing 22 ground balls and causing 17 turnovers.
Collins-Hartwig is fifth on the team in scoring with 31 points on 24 goals and seven assists. In eight conference games, the junior midfielder tallied 14 points on 11 goals and three assists, grabbing 11 ground balls and caused four turnovers.
A senior Co-captain, Cherami has 20 points on 13 goals and seven assists this season to go along with 24 ground balls. In eight conference games, the senior midfielder has 10 points on seven goals and three assists and had 15 ground balls. Cherami has 71 career points on 50 goals and 21 assists, including the game-winning goal versus Connecticut College in last year's NCAA Divsion III Tournament game.
RIT finished the regular season 15-0 overall and won the Empire 8 regular season title with an 8-0 record. The 15 straight wins is a program-record and the 15-0 start is the best start in program history. The Tigers will host Ithaca College in the Empire 8 Tournament semifinals on Friday, May 6 at 4 pm. The winner will face the winner between Stevens and Nazareth in the championship game on Sunday, May 8 at 12 pm.
