Vakiener earns IWLCA All-American and Synapse Sports honors

ROCHESTER, NY -- Sophomore #Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport)# of the RIT women's lacrosse team was named a 2011 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Second Team All-American and also earned Synapse Sports Third Team All-American honors. It's the first two All-American honors for the 2011 Empire 8 Player of the Year.

Vakiener led all scorers in Empire 8 play with 49 points on 33 goals and 16 assists. She added 27 ground balls, 31 draw controls, and caused 16 turnovers in eight games. Overall, she totaled 85 points on 57 goals and 28 assists, contributing 50 ground balls, 61 draw controls, and 24 caused turnovers. Her 57 goals this season is one shy from tying the school record. She set the program record for points in a season and her 142 career points is fourth all-time at RIT.
