ROCHESTER, NY -- RIT men's lacrosse head coach Jake Coon was named the Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Coach of the Year on Tuesday. It is the second straight season that Coach Coon has earned the honor.

Coon led RIT, 17-0 on the season, to its second straight Empire 8 Championship and a berth into the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship for the second straight year and 13th time overall.

Coon, who led the Tigers to a 14-6 record and a trip the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2010, is 24-1 over the last 25 games dating back to 2010.

RIT is one of two undefeated teams (Colorado College) in all of Division III, and have won an astounding four times this season when trailing by five goals in a game.

The Tigers received a first round bye and will face the winner between Denison and Ohio Wesleyan in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday, May 14 at RIT Field.
