ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's lacrosse team remain alive for a berth in the Empire 8 Tournament with a convincing 16-7 win over Hartwick College on Friday. The Tigers improve to 6-9 overall and more importantly, 5-2 in the Empire 8.

Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) led RIT with five goals. She has 48 on the season and is 10 goals shy of tying the single-season mark of 58 set back in 2006 by (Westwood, MA/Westwood)Pinckney Templeton#. Her 72 points this season is a new record at RIT for points in a season.

Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) had four goals and (Westwood, MA/Westwood)Carly Augustyn (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili) added two more. Junior (Westwood, MA/Westwood)Rebecca Lampson (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy)# had a goal and three assists, while #

Katleyn Crane picked up her fifth win of the season allowing five goals and making 13 saves. #Kimberly Sisti and
Sarah Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia)# led RIT's stingy defense with two caused turnovers apiece. Henriksen had a team-high six ground balls.
RIT outshot the Hawks 48-28 and won the ground ball battle 30-22. The Tigers were 15-of-25 on clearing attempts and held Hartwick to 11 clears in 18 attempts. RIT was 4-of-6 on free position attempts, while the Hawks were 1-of-7.
Emily Walsh led Hartwick with two goals. Brittany McCabe had a goal and an assist. Hannah Kennedy, Ryan McGovern and Ali Sisco each had a goal for the Hawks who fall to 1-7 in Empire 8 competiton. Jen Kaye played the whol game in net, allowing 16 goals and making 11 saves.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, April 23 when they host No. 9 Stevens Tech at 12 pm on RIT Field.
