Women's lacrosse beats St. John Fisher in overtime

PITTSFORD, NY -- Junior #Rebecca Lampson (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy)# scored with :54 remaining in the second overtime to give the RIT women's lacrosse team a thrilling 17-16 win over St. John Fisher College on Wednesday. Lampson finished with six goals on the afternoon including the game winner in OT. RIT has now one four straight games and improves to 7-5 overall.

#Tina Podrasky (Scranton, PA/Wyoming Seminary) scored four goals for RIT who improve to 5-7 overall and 4-2 in the Empire 8. (Westwood, MA/Westwood)Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)# each tallied three goals and two assists.

The Tigers came out firing, leading 6-2 early in the first half. RIT scored the first three goals of the game and six in the first 11:28 to take early command of the game.

Fisher stormed back, outscoring RIT 9-2 over the final 17:48 of the first half and led 11-8 at the break. Lampson scored three of her six goals in the opening half to pace the Tigers. Podrasky and Vakiener each had two.

Vakiener, #Ashleigh Caruso (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)# and Henriksen opened the second half with three straight goals for RIT, tying the score at 11-11 on Henriksen's second goal of the game with 26:37 remaining.

After Fisher reclaimed the lead, consecutive goals by Lampson and Henriksen midway through the half gave the Tigers the lead back at 13-12.

The Cardinals rattled off a three-goal mini-run of their own, taking a 15-13 lead with 13:56 to play on a goal by Melissa Leonhard.

Lampsn and Podrasky converted free position attempts for RIT, tying the score at 15-15 with 9:31 remaining. Just :26 later Podrasky gave the Tigers a 16-15 lead on her fourth goal of the afternoon.

Jackie Maynard scored with 6:27 remaining in regulation to tie the score at 16-16. That score held up over the final 6:27 sending the game into overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime session, Lampson gave the Tigers a 17-16 lead with her sixth goal of the game off an an assist from #Carly Augustyn (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili)#.

That proved to be the game-winner as the Tigers defense closed out the final :54 seconds to give the Tigers its fourth consecutive win.

RIT was outshot by St. John Fisher 46-31, and lost the ground ball battle 22-18. RIT won 12-of-25 draw controls and were 22-of-27 on clearing attempts.

#Katelyn Crane (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)# picked up the win for the Tigers allowing 14 goals and making 11 saves.

RIT will go for four in a row on Friday, April 15 when they face Brockport at 4 pm in Brockport, New York.
