ROCHESTER, NY -- Sophomore midfielder #Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport)# of the RIT women's lacrosse team was named Empire 8 and ECAC Upstate Women's Lacrosse PLayer of the Week for the week ending April 10, 2011.

Vakiener tied a school record with 11 points in a 19-7 win over Alfred on Sunday. She tallied six goals and added five assists, scoring three times in the second half when the Tigers outscored the Saxons 11-0. Vakiener posted four goals, an assist, eight ground balls, and five draw controls in the Tigers' 15-12 victory over Utica.

RIT, 4-7 overall and 3-2 in the Empire 8 will travel to St. John Fisher for a conference clash with Cardinals on Wednesday, April 13 at 4 pm.
