ROCHESTER, NY – Three members of the RIT women's basketball team were named to the 2011 Empire 8 Women's Basketball All-Conference team on Wednesday. Freshman #
Courtney Tennant (Cortland, NY/Cortland) was a second team selection and was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year. Sophomore (Neptune, NJ/Neptune)Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)# was an honorable mention pick, and freshman #
Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)# was named RIT's Sportsperson of the Year.
Tennant led RIT in scoring averaging 15.4 points per game, rebounding averaging 7.8 per game and free throw percentage at 83.5%. She had seven double-doubles on the season including four in the last six games of the season.
Tennant, who is the third straight Rookie of the Year from RIT, had nine games of 20 points or including a season high of 28 points in consecutive games versus Brockport and Elmira.
Her 385 points in 2010-11 is third most in the program's history, and her 83.5% free throw percentage is fourth best in program history.
Havens, who was the 2010 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, was second on the team in scoring averaging 14.5 points per game. The sophomore guard averaged 4.5 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game and 2.1 steals per game. The 362 points scored by Havens this season is sixth most in RIT program history.
Wheeler had a solid freshman season, averaging 8.1 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. She had a season high 16 points versus St. John Fisher and posted two double-doubles on the season.
RIT finished the season with a 6-19 record and were 4-11 in the Empire 8.
