Wrestling records third place finish at 46th Annual RIT Invitational

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT wrestling team recorded an impressive third place finish at the 46th Annual RIT Wrestling Tournament, held at the Gordon Field House on Saturday afternoon.  The Tigers tallied 114.5 points, with three wrestlers recording second place finishes and another placing third in their respective weight classes.  John Carroll won the tournament with 159.5 points, while Wesleyan was second with 137.5 points.

#Rory Bruce (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda)#. #Tory Cain (Ontario, NY/Wayne) and Nick Fuschino (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts)# placed second in their respective weight classes.  The top-seed at 125 lbs., Bruce won his first two matches by falls before losing to Jeff Holy of John Carroll in the championship bout.  Cain, seeded second at 165 lbs. won his first three matches, one by fall before losing to Sean Gill in the championship, 6-3.  Fuschino won his first two bouts, one by fall and other by technical fall before losing a tough, 4-3 decision to Todd Gaydosh in the championship match.

#Nick Stewart (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin)# was third at 285 lbs. He won his first round match before losing in the second round.  Stewart then rebounded to win both of his consolation bouts, both via falls to earn third. 

#Shin Wakabayashi (Rochester, NY/Brighton)# placed fourth at 125 lbs., going 2-2 on the afternoon, while #Jake Harvey (LeRoy, NY/LeRoy)# did the same at 141 lbs.  #Sean Sercu (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney)# went 4-2 at 157 lbs. to finish fourth. 

#Greg Jones (Weare, NH/John Stark)#, #Adam Hugunine (Rochester, NY/Penfield)#, #Tom Armentano (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner)#, #Tyler Brent (Gasport, NY/Royalton-Hartland)#, #Tim Thurnau (Nampa, ID/Nampa)#, and #Dave Sickler (Belle Vernon, PA/Belle Vernon)# also won matches for the Tigers.

Ben Mikac of Oneonta State was named the Tony Wallace Memorial Award winner as the meet's Most Outstanding Wrestler.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, as they host No. 4 Ithaca in a dual meet at Clark Gym that gets underway at 7 p.m.
