ROCHESTER, NY - Junior #
Erin LaFave (Troy, MI/Bloomfield Hills Lahser)# of the RIT cross country team, placed 96th overall out of 277 runners at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis., hosted by the University of Wisconsin Osh-Kosh. LaFave, making her first appearance at the NCAA Championship set a 6,000-meter school record, finishing the race in 22:16.75, improving her mark set last weekend by nearly 10 seconds.
Washington University won the team title with 70 points, while Chiara Del Piccolo of Williams was the individual winner, finishing in 20:52.08.
LaFave, who was named to the 2011 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region team on Tuesday, recorded the best ever individual time for a RIT runner over 6,000 meters for the second straight weekend. Last weekend, LaFave placed ninth overall at the 2011 NCAA District Championship in a time of 22:26.2.
Today. LaFave was 56th after the first mile, 69th after two miles, and 107th after the third mile.
This season, LaFave finished with five top-five finishes, including a victory at the SUNY Brockport Invitational on Sept. 10.
