ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team advanced to the title game of the seventh annual Doug May Classic on penalty kicks over Ithaca College. The game ended in a 1-1 tie and the Tigers won the shoot out 4-2.

RIT goalkeeper Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) made two key stops in the shoot out and senior Bret Dietz (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) scored the game-winner for the Tigers who will face the winner between Nazareth and Brockport on Sunday afternoon at 4 pm.

RIT took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on Matt Brodel’s first goal of the season. He scored off a loose ball inside the Ithaca penalty area to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Dietz had the assist on the play.

The Tigers controlled much of the play in the opening half. Junior forward Dan Holowaty (Strongsville, OH/St. Ignatius) created a great chance early in the contest when he intercepted a re-start by the Bombers. He broke in and fed Dietz and his shot got deflected over the cross-bar.

Dietz and Holowaty connected again with 36 minutes remaining in the first half. This time Dietz fed a streaking Holowaty. He fed it across the goal to Todd Gaulocher (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) who fed Allen Nicholson (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg Area) on the far post. His one-timer was stopped by Ithaca keeper Justin Parlapiano.

The Bombers came out strong in the second half. Steve Kinslow tied the score at 1-1 in the 67th minute when he caught RIT goalkeeper Sean Conway off his line and chipped it over his head for his second goal of the season.

Ithaca will play in the consolation game on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.
