HAVERHILL, MA -- Eighteen RIT men's hockey players earned 2009-10 Atlantic Hockey Association All-Academic team honors on Wednesday. Out of the 18 players selected, 14 are repeat honorees, including four three-time selections, and four who earned the honor for the fourth straight year.Â
For a seventh straight year a new standard has been set in the classroom for the student-athletes of Atlantic Hockey as 140 have earned a spot on the All-Academic Team. The 140 student-athletes eclipses the mark of 135 that were honored after the 2008-09 season. In the seventh year of existence, 16 players earned their fourth appearance on the All-Academic squad. In addition, 24 are appearing for the third time, while 38 are being honored for the second time.
To qualify for the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team an individual must post a 3.0 grade point average or higher in all of the academic periods during which his team was actively competing. The men's hockey team posted a team GPA of 3.21 which was third highest amongst all men's intercollegiate athletic teams at RIT.Â
