TROY, NY - The RIT men’s track and field team placed third at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championship Meet which was held Friday and Saturday at RPI hosted. The Ithaca team won the meet as they accumulated 220 points. RIT was able to pick up 123.5 points to secure third.
Junior
Brecht Moulin (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) had a spectacular weekend as he placed within the top three for all of his events. Moulin won two events, was second in a relay, and third in an individual event. Moulin won the 400-meter dash and assisted his team in winning the 4x400-meter relay. Moulin won the 400-meter dash in an impressive time of 48.72. Moulin along with
Matt Marion (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima),
Jon Sealander (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal), and
Cameron Lee (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), won the relay in a heart-stopping race. Moulin pulled away in the final leg, crossing the line with an accumulated time of 3:19.78. Moulin also participated in the 4x100-meter relay which placed second overall. The relay team finished with a time of 43.07 seconds. The other runners in the relay included Christopher Webb,
Anthony Schiavone (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), and
Bill Caton (Earlville, NY/Sherburne-Earlville). Moulin then placed third in the 200-meter dash with an impressive time of 21.73 seconds, which provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Championship Meet.
Another provisional NCAA qualifier includes fellow relay teammate
Matt Marion (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima). Marion won the 400-meter hurdles, gliding over the ten hurdles to finish in a time of 53.88 seconds. This could potentially be Marion’s second trip the Championship Meet.
Junior Michael Dempsey was RIT's other first place finisher, winning the pole vault. Dempsey soared to a height of 5.03 meters to take the win.
Cameron Lee (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) not only assisted the relay in a win, he also picked up some points for the team in the 110-meter hurdles. Lee placed third overall with a final time of 15.45 seconds. Freshman
Adam Irr (Newfane, NY/Newfane) also was third in his event, the 1,500-meter race. Irr finished the race in a time of 4:00.52.
Junior
Brian Walker (Brockport, NY/Brockport) had another great day in the hammer throw as he was second overall. Walker flung the hammer 48.70 meters. Walker also set a personal record in the shot put as he tossed the shot 13.37 meters. This throw secured him fifth. Fellow teammate
Casey Doty (Holley, NY/Holley) also set a personal record in the hammer. Doty threw the instrument 43.18 meters, picking up some extra points for the team as he placed sixth. Freshman thrower Shawheen Farzad was third in the discus as he threw the disc 39.68 meters.
Other notable performances came from the third relay event, the 4x800-meter relay and freshman
Marquis Moore (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) in the long jump. The relay team of
Sam Smolenski (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles), Caryl Brunner,
John Holleran (West Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken), and
Adam Irr (Newfane, NY/Newfane) placed third in the race, crossing the line in a final time of 7:51.00. Moore was also third, jumping 6.53 meter in the long jump.
