Women's lacrosse falls to Ithaca in double overtime

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's lacrosse team fell to Ithaca College (2-3, 1-0 E8) 14-12 in double overtime on a sunny afternoon at RIT. The loss drops RIT to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8.

RIT's #Eileen Hennigan (Liverpool, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) sent the game into overtime with a goal as the horn sounded to end regulation. She took a pass from (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)Danielle Previ (Medford, NJ/Shawnee)# took a few strides and fired a shot as the horn sounded to tie the score at 11-11 and send the game into overtime.

The Tigers had led 10-8 with 17 minutes to play in the second half, rattling off four straight goals. #Tina Podrasky (Scranton, PA/Wyoming Seminary)# capped off the run with her second tally of the game to give RIT their largest lead of the contest at 10-8.

The Bombers responded with a three-goal run taking an 11-10 lead on two straight goals from Kylie McClure. That score held until, as Ithaca was attempting a clear, Previ intercepted a pass, found Hennigan who scored as time ran out in regulation.

Nicole Borisenok scored two goals in the overtime periods for Ithaca to give the Bombers the win. #Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)# had the Tigers lone overtime goal.

RIT held a slight edge in shots 35-32, but Ithaca won the ground ball battle 29-22. Ithaca won 16 draw controls to 13 for RIT. The TIges were 22-of-27 on clearing attempts, while the Bombers were 23-of-27. Both teams went 4-for-8 on free position attempts.

Freshman midfielder #Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport)# paced RIT with six points on five goals and an assist. She had six ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Tina Podrasky (Scranton, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and #Eileen Hennigan (Liverpool, NY/Christian Brothers Academy)# each had a pair of goals for RIT. Danielle Previ (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) chipped in with a goal and two assists. Freshman Katelyn Crane (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) took the loss in net, making 12 saves.

Catherine Hurley led Ithaca with four goals. Nicole Borisenok added three goals and dished out two assists. Jessica Worthman picked up the win making 11 saves for the Bombers.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, April3 when they host Empire 8 foe Elmira at 1 pm on RIT Field.
