No. 4 women's hockey drops overtime thriller to No. 3 Elmira in ECAC West Semifinal
PLATTSBURGH, NY - The RIT women's hockey team (19-5-3), ranked fourth in the nation dropped an overtime heart-breaker to No. 3 Elmira (21-4-1) by a score of 2-1 in the ECAC West Semifinal at Plattsburgh on Saturday.  Madison Johnson scored 5:10 into overtime to lift the Soaring Eagles, who will play top-ranked Plattsburgh in the ECAC West Championship on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The RIT women's hockey team (19-5-3), ranked fourth in the nation dropped an overtime heart-breaker to No. 3 Elmira (21-4-1) by a score of 2-1 in the ECAC West Semifinal at Plattsburgh on Saturday.  Madison Johnson scored 5:10 into overtime to lift the Soaring Eagles, who will play top-ranked Plattsburgh in the ECAC West Championship on Sunday at 3 p.m.

RIT trailed 1-0 until late in the third period, when Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks) tallied her 17th goal of the season, on the power-play, with assists going to Kylie Mazzetta (Lakewood, CO/Colorado Selects) and Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury).  The goal was scored with 5:46 left in regulation.

Both teams fired 29 shots on net.  Elmira tallied all four overtime shots.  RIT out-shot Elmira 10-4 in the first period, while Elmira out-shot RIT 8-7 in the second and 13-12 in the third.

Carley King (Tinley Park, IL/Chicago Young Americans) was solid in net for the Soaring Eagles, stopping 27 shots.  Lauren Sullivan stopped 28 shots for Elmira, who is now 9-2-2 all-time against RIT.

Tiffany Hart and Jenna McCall assisted on both Elmira goals. 

After a scoreless first period, the Soaring Eagles took a 1-0 lead just 1:15 into the second period, as Jillyane DeBus tallied with assists going to Hart and McCall.

The Tigers took just three penalties in the contest, a season low.  RIT was 1-for-6 on the power-play.

The Tigers will now await a possible NCAA Tournament at large bid.
