PHOENIX, AZ - The RIT baseball team (2-5) completed its spring trip by dropping a pair of games to Rockford College, 12-5 and 20-11 at the RussMatt Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, RIT took a 1-0 first inning lead on a RBI single by
Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield).
Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia) led off with a single.
Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) dropped a perfect bunt and reached base. Dornes then singled Smith in.
Rockford scored twice in the third inning and never trailed from there.
Smith was 2-for-3 for the Tigers, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
Ryan Campbell (Brockport, NY/Brockport),
Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) and
Jeff Creagh (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) each drove in a run.
Cory Langtry (Moravia, NY/Moravia) started on the mound for RIT, allowing two runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Charles Yarrington (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), who earned the win in relief for RIT on Wednesday, took the loss, allowing three earned runs in 2/3 of an inning.
In game two, RIT jumped out a 10-1 third inning lead before Rockford roared back.
Senior catcher
Chris Brol (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) was a career-best 4-for-4 and scored three runs in the loss. Dornes was 2-for-3 with three RBI and run scored and a stolen base.
Kyle Desrosiers (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers) was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Robertson was 2-for-3 with two walks.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, March 21, as they host Keuka in a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
