Baseball cruises to doubleheader sweep over Hilbert

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT baseball team extended its winning streak to four games and improved to 6-5 on the season after sweeping Hilbert (3-7) by scores of 18-3 and 11-3 at Field of Dreams Park in Webster on Sunday.  Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) was 7-for-8 with two home runs, six RBI and six runs scored in the doubleheader.

In game one, Kernan was 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, four runs scored and three RBI.  He doubled and homered in a 13-run third inning for RIT.

RIT rapped 16 hits in game one.  Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield), Ed Hughes (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), Kyle Desrosiers (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers), Ryan Campbell (Brockport, NY/Brockport), and Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) had two hits apiece in the win.

Dornes was sharp in the mound, allowing four hits and one earned run, while striking out six in six innings.  Dan Schuster (Livonia, NY/Livonia) pitched the final inning in relief.

In game two, Kernan continued his red-hot streak at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, triple, and four RBI.  Dornes was 3-for-3 with a single, double, triple, three runs scored and three RBI.  Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia) was scored three runs and stole two bases.

Cory Langtry (Moravia, NY/Moravia) earned the win on the mound for RIT, allowing just one earned run in five innings of work.

The Tigers return to action on Monday, as they play Medaille, once again in Webster at 1 p.m.
