PHOENIX, AZ -
Senior outfielder Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) became the all-time career leader in hits, as the RIT baseball team (0-3) dropped a pair of games to St. John's (Minn.) University (5-0) by scores of 5-3 and 6-3 at the RussMatt Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.

Dornes was 2-for-4 in game one, giving him 161 career hits, breaking the record of 160, held by Andy Schild, who played at RIT from 1999-2002.

RIT scored all three game one runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.  Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia) and Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) led off the game with walks.  Dornes tied the record by tripling down the left field line, driving in both runs.  Dornes then scored on a sacrifice fly by Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse).

Dornes broke the record with an infield single to lead-off the sixth inning.  Kernan recorded RIT's only other hit, a lead-off double in the fourth inning.

Cory Langtry (Moravia, NY/Moravia) threw a complete game, but took the loss allowing seven hits and four earned runs.  He struck out four batters.

In game two, St. John's jumped out to a 6-0 lead, before RIT crawled back with three runs.  Smith was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Ed Hughes (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) scored twice.  Corey McEvoy (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Frank DiPinto (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) recorded their first collegiate hits.

Mike Marsillo (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) started for RIT and allowed seven hits and four earned runs in five innings.  Brad Wright (Baldswinville, NY/C.W. Baker) threw two scoreless innings in relief.

The Tigers and Johnnies meet once again on Wednesday in a single contest starting at 12 p.m. EST.
