Chris Tanev (Toronto, Ontario/) earned all-conference accolades, as the Atlantic Hockey Association announced its 2009-10 award winners at the Radisson Riverside Hotel in downtown Rochester on Thursday evening.
Ringwald was named the AHA's Best Defenseman and was named to the first team team for the third straight season. DeMichiel won the Regular Season Goaltending Trophy and was also a first team selection. Tanev was named the Rookie of the Year, while earning third team and All-Rookie Team accolades. Favot was a second team selection, while Burt was named to the third team.
Ringwald is enjoying another tremendous season, with 30 points on 11 goals and 19 assists. In addition, he is plus-17, fourth best in the conference. He is tied for seventh nationally among all defensemen with 30 points, and his 11 goals are a career-high. Ringwald is tied for the team lead with seven power-play goals. On Oct. 31, Ringwald became the first Tiger at the Division I level to record a natural hat-trick, tallying three times in the first period of a 7-0 win over Connecticut. Ringwald was the Inside College Hockey National Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 1, 2009. He is also a catalyst of the RIT power-play that has scored 20 times in the last 12 games and has vaulted to 10th in the nation.
For his career, Ringwald has 21 goals and 97 assists for 118 points in 140 career games. He is RIT's all-time leader in assists. He is also RIT's leader in points by a defenseman at the DI level.
DeMichiel has emerged as one of the top goaltenders in the nation this season. He was the AHA Goaltender of the Month in February, and a five-time AHA Goaltender of the Week selection. In conference play DeMichiel led all goaltenders with a 21-4-1 mark, 1.78 goals against average, .932 save percentage, and five solo shutouts. He also was part of two shared shutouts. The 21 wins are an AHA single-season record. Overall, DeMichiel is second nationally in wins (23), sixth in winning percentage (.712), ninth in goals against average (2.10), 11th in save percentage (.919), and is 23-9-1 overall. RIT's seven shutouts tie a single-season record, set in 1983-84.
For his career, DeMichiel is 37-18-2 with a 2.52 goals against average, and .907 save percentage. He is RIT's all-time leader at the Division I level in goals against average and shutouts (6).
Tanev is enjoying an outstanding rookie season for the Tigers. He is RIT's second Rookie of the Year in four seasons of AHA play, joining teammate
Alan Mazur (Burnaby, British Columbia/), who earned the honor in 2006-07. The rookie defenseman is third among all AHA-blueliners and first year players with 26 points on nine goals and 17 assists. In addition, Tanev leads all AHA players with a plus-29 rating. Tanev has also taken just two penalties in 36 games. He is a main reason why RIT allowed the fewest goals in AHA play and is fourth nationally in scoring defense. Tanev was a two-time AHA Rookie of the Week.
Favot is tied for the team lead with 38 points this season. In addition, he has seven power-play and three game-winning goals in 2009-10. Favot was also a two-time AHA Player of the Week. It is the first All-AHA selection for the junior forward. Favot, who will play in his 100th career game on Friday, has 27 goals and 52 assists for 79 points in his collegiate career.
Burt, a forward, leads RIT with 14 goals and is tied for the team lead with 38 points, and seven power-play goals. This is his first All-AHA selection. Burt was the AHA Player of the Month in February. Burt has 20 points (5-15-20) over his last 11 games. Burt has 27 goals and 41 assists for 68 points in 71 career games.
In addition, RIT was awarded the 2010 AHA Regular Season Championship trophy.
RIT (24-11-1), the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament is back in action against No. 4 Canisius (17-14-5) on Friday in the first semifinal contest at the Blue Cross Arena at 4:05 p.m. Sacred Heart (20-12-4) is the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 Air Force (16-14-6) on Friday in the first semifinal at 4:05 p.m. The two winners meet in the championship game on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
