ROCHESTER, NY -- Hey Tiger fans, vote for senior Dan Ringwald (Oakville, Ontario) from the RIT hockey team for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. You can vote for Dan NOW online at www.seniorCLASSaward.com or by texting HOCKEY to 74567. Please note that standard text messaging rates apply and this service may not be available on all carriers. Voting continues through the end of the regular season.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School™, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 20 candidates who were announced in October.

Ringwald is a three-time selection to the Empire 8 President’s List, which recognizes student-athletes for maintaining a 3.75 grade point average or higher. He is a three-time selection to the Atlantic Hockey Association All-Academic squad. In addition, Ringwald graduated in three years from RIT in business where he boasted a 3.80 grade point average. He is currently working on his MBA at RIT’s E. Philip Saunders College of Business.

Ringwald is a two-time captain of RIT’s hockey team, which includes the current 2009-10 season. He leads by example and is the type of player who tries to make his teammates better. He and the Tigers have participated in several charitable and community related activities throughout the greater Rochester area. Ringwald and his teammates frequently read to children at Margaret’s House (RIT’s on-campus daycare center). Last year, Ringwald led a contingent of players to School #5 in downtown Rochester to read and interact with elementary school children. In addition, he participated in “Clean Sweep,” a community service function sponsored by RIT’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Also, Ringwald has plans to help raise money for “Coaches Care,” which helps raise money for families in need.

This season he is third on the team in scoring with 23 points on seven goals and 16 assists. Ringwald is a two-time first team All-Atlantic Hockey Association selection and was named to the AHA All-Rookie team in 2006-07.
