ORLANDO, FL - The RIT softball team (2-2) garnered a split on Sunday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games. The Tigers won the opening game, 8-4 over Walsh, but dropped the second contest, 1-0 to York.
RIT pulled away with four runs in the fifth inning.
Megan O'Connell (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and
Allee Emmi (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) each drove in a pair of runs.
Arielle Link (Weston, CT/Weston) was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, while
MIchelle Tabisz (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) reached base three times, with a hit and two walks.
Freshman hurler
Brittany Kemp (Dansville, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) earned her first collegiate win, hurling four innings, with four strikeouts.
Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) picked up the save, striking out four batters over the final three innings.
RIT had a golden chance to take an early lead against York. The Tigers loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning.
Shannon McCormick (Auburn, NY/Auburn) led off with a bunt single.
Jen Hayden (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) singled, while
Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Pompey) also singled, giving the Tigers a great chance to score early. Two ground-outs and a fly-out ended the rally.
York scored in the bottom of the second inning.
Cole took the tough-luck loss, allowing seven hits and striking out four batters in the complete game effort.
RIT is right back in action on Monday as they play Widener (Pa.) in a doubleheader starting at 9 a.m.
