SYRACUSE, NY - The RIT men's swimming and diving squad finished sixth out of 16 teams at the 2010 NYSCTC Championships with a score of 779 points. One RIT record was broken during the week.
Diver
Evan Wendt (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) was third in the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events. Wendt completed the 3-meter dive with a score of 459.85, and finished the 1-meter event with a score of 434.80.
On Friday evening,
Jeff Kaemmerlen (Fairport, NY/Fairport) recorded one of RIT's best finishes, placing fourth in the 50-yard freestyke with a time of 21.62 seconds.
On Sunday evening,
Steve Rois (Amherst, NY/Amherst High School) was fourth in the 1,605-yard freestyle with a time of 16:41.32.
In Saturday's action, the 200-yard medley relay team of
Kevin Christiansen (Penfield, NY/Penfield),
Bryan Minicucci (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield),
Ryan Marchant (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School), and Kaemmerlen finished seventh in the finals with a time of 1:36.90.
Senior
Steve Rois (Amherst, NY/Amherst High School) finished fifth in the finals of the 200-yard freestlye in a time of 1:43.90, and Kaemmerlen finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday. Kaemmerlen broke his own record in the event with a time of 58.85.
The team of Rois,
AJ Broderick (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville), Christiansen and Kaemmerlen finished the session strong with a seventh place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:05.78.
Steve Rois (Amherst, NY/Amherst High School) was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:41.25.
On Friday, the 4 x 200-yard freestyle relay team of
Jeff Kaemmerlen (Fairport, NY/Fairport),
Kevin Christiansen (Penfield, NY/Penfield),
Ryan Brannan (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), and
Ryan Marchant (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) placed sixth with a time of 1:25.45.
The other participating teams in the overall field of 17 include Empire 8 members Alfred, Hartwick, Nazareth, RIT, Stevens and Utica. The remaining teams, primarily from the Liberty League, include Cazenovia, Clarkson, Le Moyne, Rensselaer, Skidmore, St. Lawrence, Union, Vassar, Wells and William Smith.
