ROCHESTER, NY - The men’s track and field team had an excellent showing as they competed at the RIT Invitational against ten other teams. The top performers of the day were juniors
Zachary Loughery (Wantage, NJ/High Point), and
Brian Walker (Brockport, NY/Brockport) who broke school records in the 55-meter dash, and weight throw, respectively.
Loughery broke a 15-year old school record in the 55-meter dash. Loughery recorded a time of 6.63, placing second. Walker threw 15.0 meters in the weight throw, breaking his own school record.
Three other team members recorded individual first place finishes were juniors Mike Dempsey in the pole vault,
Brecht Moulin (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) in the 400-meter dash, and
John Holleran (West Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) in the 1,000-meter race. Dempsey recorded a height of 4.55 meters. Moulin clocked in at 50.44 while Holleran crossed the line at 2:38.18.
The 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams also finished first as they dominated the competition in both races. The 200-meter relay consisting of Moulin,
Chris Webb (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Township),
Jon Sealander (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal), and
Anthony Schiavone (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) finished with a time of 1:32.44. Moulin, Sealander, and Webb then partnered up with
Sam Smolenski (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) to go on and win the 400-meter relay with a time of 3:27.11. The 4x200 relay time has qualified the team for the ECAC Championship.
The men’s team also had four second place finishes throughout the meet. Freshman
Cameron Lee (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) crossed the line in 8.23 for the 55-meter hurdle finals.
Freshman
Marquis Moore (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) jumped his way to second in the long jump with a distance of 6.70 meters. He then went on to also place second in the triple jump with a distance of 13.66 meters.
The team also had two individual third place finishes. The first was Smolenski in the 500-meter dash with a time of 68.73. Webb was soon to follow in the 55-meter dash finals with a time of 6.67.
The men’s team will be back in action next Saturday, when they travel to compete in the St. Lawrence Invitational.
