ROCHESTER, NY -- Former RIT men's hockey standouts,
Steve Pinizzotto (Mississauga, ON/Oakville Blades) and
Anton Kharin (Moscow, Russia/Bay State Breakers), will both head to NHL training camp, starting September 14. Pinizzotto will be at the Washington Capitals training camp after re-signing with the Capitals, while Kharin will be at the Atlanta Thrashers camp.
Pinizzotto, who played for RIT from 2005-2007, helped lead the Hershey Bears to a Calder Cup title back in May, and was called up from the Bears to the Capitals in early March, 2009. Last year at Hershey, Pinizzotto played in 45 regular season games with 11 points on four goals and seven assists, while racking up 61 penalty minutes. In 21 playoff games, he tallied five points on three goals and two assists. Pinizzotto scored 62 career points at RIT, and is third all-time at RIT among Division I players.
Kharin will be attending the Atlanta Thrashers training camp as an unsigned free agent. He graduated from RIT last May, finishing his career with 54 points on 30 goals and 24 assists. Last year, he tallied 21 points on 12 goals and nine assists, while winning RIT's Ellingson Award, which honors both academic and athletic excellence.
