ONEONTA, NY - The RIT volleyball team (10-6) extended its winning streak to four matches after defeating host Hartwick and Alfred, each in three games to kick off Empire 8 crossover play at Lambros Arena on Friday afternoon. The Tigers defeated Hartwick by scores of 25-12, 25-20, 25-20, then dispatched Alfred, 25-13, 25-18, 25-14.
Senior middle hitter
Victoria Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) slammed a team-best 13 kills to go along with four blocks, and three service aces in the win over Hartwick. Freshman
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) added nine kills and hit .300.
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 29 assists and added three blocks, while
Melanie Springer (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) led RIT with nine digs and recorded three service aces.
RIT trailed 15-11 in the third game against Hartwick before ending the contest on a 14-5 tear.
Freshman
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) slammed 14 kills in just 16 attempts in the win over Alfred, while hitting a season-high .812. Petko recorded 13 kills as well. Freshman
Cristine Schiavello (West Chester, PA/Unionville) dished out 28 assists. Sophomore
Lauren Kraft (Lockport, NY/Holy Angels Academy) led the team with seven digs.
The Tigers continue Empire 8 play on Saturday, as they play Elmira at 9:30, and Ithaca at 2:30, also at Hartwick.
