ROCHESTER, NY -- Lou Spiotti, Director of the Center for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation at RIT, announced the appointment of former Tiger standout Becky May as head coach of RIT's softball program on Monday.

“We are thrilled to have Becky join us as our new head softball coach,” said Spiotti. “She will bring a unique blend of experiences and skills to this job.”

May was the assistant softball coach at Nazareth College for the past three seasons where she helped start the program.  May, who started at Nazareth in 2006, performed a wide array of coaching and teaching duties. Along with working with players on skill development, she helped coordinate recruiting, arranged team travel plans, led pre-season workouts, assisted with practice and game management, and facilitated team fundraisers. May also helped coordinate events with the athletics staff at Nazareth.

“As a former RIT student-athlete and coach, Becky knows what it takes to be successful in this environment,” said Spiotti. “We are confident that she will take our program to new heights. We look forward to working with her.”

May played her collegiate softball at RIT, graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental management technology. She was a four-year starter for the Tigers and was a captain in 2001 and 2002.

She played in 127 career games, primarily at first base, posting a .262 career average. May batted .296 with 17 runs scored and nine RBI in 2002. She hit two home runs and seven doubles that season, earning All-Empire 8 first team honors. May is tied for fifth all-time at RIT with five career home runs and second in put-outs (764).

After graduation, May was an assistant coach at RIT from 2003 through 2005. In three seasons at RIT, she helped lead the Tigers to a 72-42-2 record and a trip to the Empire 8 tournament in 2005.

"I am really excited with the opportunity to come back to RIT, where I played and coached," said May.  "The team is in a very good spot and I am looking forward to building on that."

May attended Greece Athena High School in suburban Rochester.
