PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT women's lacrosse team won their third straight game with an 8-7 victory over St. John Fisher College in Empire 8 action on Sunday afternoon. The win improves RIT to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8. RIT is 3-0 in conference action for the first time in program history.
RIT was out shot by the Cardinals 37-33 but won the ground ball battle 36-35. The Tigers won 11-of-17 draw controls but went 0-for-4 on free position attempts.
#Eileen Hennigan (Liverpool, NY/Christian Brothers Academy)# (Liverpool, NY/CBA) led RIT with four points on three goals and an assist. She became the seventh player in the history of the women's lacrosse program to surpass 100 career points.

Ashley Pezze (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland)# (Guilderland, NY) and
#Danielle Previ (Medford, NJ/Shawnee)# (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each had a pair of goals and
#Allyson Pisher (Holley, NY/Holley)# (Rochester, NY/Holley) had a goal and an assist.
#Jerica Young (Jay, NY/Northwood School)# (Jay, NY/Northwood School) led a stout RIT defense causing five turnovers, grabbing six ground balls and had a draw control.
#Kelsey Evans (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley)# (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) picked up the win allowing seven goals while making 14 saves.
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead 2:30 minutes into the contest on a goal by Meg Marriam.
Pezze tied the score at one with an unassisted goal at 5:08 of the first half.
Allyson Pisher (Holley, NY/Holley) scored on an assist from
#Allie Coppola (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park)# (Orchard Park, NY) at 10:48 of the first half, giving RIT a 2-1 lead.
Hennigan closed out the first half scoring with her first goal of the afternoon at 21:19 of the half on an assist from Pisher. That goal gave RIT a 3-1 lead at the half.
St. John Fisher came out and scored the first two goals of the second half, tying the score at 3-3 on Merriam's second goal of the game.
The Tigers ran off five straight goals, taking an 8-3 lead. Hennigan made it 4-3 with an unassisted goal. Previ scored at 13:05 making it 5-3. Pezze scored on an assist from Hennigan thirty seconds later, increasing the Tigers lead to 6-3. Hennigan scored her third of the afternoon at 17:45 increasing the Tigers lead to 7-3 and Previ completed the run with her second of the afternoon with seven minutes remaining.
RIT had to withhold a furious run by St. John Fisher over the final seven minutes to hold on for the win. The Cardinals ran off four straight tallies, pulling to within a goal on an Ashley Fenyn goal with 47 seconds remaining.
The Tigers were able to kill off the final seconds to hold on for only the third win for RIT over the Cardinals. The win was the first win over St. John Fisher since the 2001 season.
This completed a four-game in six-day stretch for the Tigers. RIT went 3-1 during that span.
The Tigers are off until Friday, April 10 when they host Utica College at 4 p.m. on RIT Field.
