Softball extends winning streak to five games with doubleheader sweep over Wells
AURORA, NY – The RIT softball team (15-15) made it five straight wins and improved to 9-1 over the last 10 games, beating the raindrops and sweeping Wells College (2-22), 7-2 and 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

AURORA, NY –
The RIT softball team (15-15) made it five straight wins and improved to 9-1 over the last 10 games, beating the raindrops and sweeping Wells College (2-22), 7-2 and 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

RIT trailed 2-0 before erupting for four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh inning for the victory.  Senior Jenna Mausolf (Hudson, NY/Hudson) (Hudson, NY/Hudson) hit a two-run single to give RIT the lead.  She went 3-for-4 with a career-best four RBI and scored a run in the victory.

Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Pompey) (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Freshman Brie Raymond (Glenfield, NY/South Lewis) (Glenfield, NY/South Lewis) hit a run scoring single.

Sarah Hamel (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) (Templeton, MA/Narragansett Regional) picked up her third win of the season, allowing just two hits and struck out a career-best nine in the complete-game victory.

In game two, freshman hurler Mary Medino (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) had her best start of the season, allowing just four hits, while striking out 11 to record her first collegiate shutout. 

RIT scored once in the fourth inning and twice in the seventh for the win.  McPherson had a pair of stolen bases, giving her 13 on the season.

RIT is right back in action on Wednesday, as they host SUNY Geneseo in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.

Friday's home doubleheader against SUNY Brockport that was scheduled for 3 p.m., has been cancelled.  SUNY Brockport has ro make-up a SUNYAC Conference doubleheader on that day.  Those two games will not be made up.
