ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's tennis team (8-3, 6-2 Empire 8) extended its winning streak to seven matches with a 9-0 win over SUNY Oswego (0-1) at the RIT Courts on Thursday afternoon. RIT has shutout four of its last five opponents and have outscored its foes 57-6 during the streak.

The seven-match winning streak is the longest since the Tigers won eight straight in 2005.  That was also the last season they won the Empire 8 Championship.

The Tigers were in control for the entire contest, winning all three of the doubles matches to start the day off. The pairing of John Albers (Grands Rapids, MI/Forest Hills) (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills) and Larry Hall (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) improved their already team best record to 7-3 with an 8-0 victory in third doubles. Not to be outdone, John Traver (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, NY/Shendehowa) and Adam Wolf (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) (South Euclid, OH/South Euclid) scored an 8-1 win at second doubles.  Jose Guzman (Guatemala/Collegio Valle Verde) (Guatemala/Collegio Valle Verde) and Clayton Tontarski (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) (Rochester, NY/Rush Henrietta) also tallied an 8-1 win at first doubles

Wolf, one of three freshmen to get the start on Thursday, was also victorious in fourth singles, blanking his opponent, 6-0, 6-1. Tontarski and Max Bogue (Colchester, VT/Colchester) (Colchester, VT/Colchester) also won their matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-2 respectively.

Guzman recorded a win at first singles, 6-1, 6-2, while Albers tallied a 6-4, 6-2 win at sixth singles.  Sophomore Joshua Goldstein (Miami, FL/Palmer Trinity) (Miami, FL/Palmer Trinity) rounded up the shutout victory for the tigers, with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles to stay unbeaten.

The Tigers conclude the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Elmira to play the Soaring Eagles at 1 p.m.  A win would clinch the No. 3 seed in the Empire 8 Championship, which will take place at St. John Fisher College on May 2 and May 3.
