ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's lacrosse team defeated Hartwick College 14-5 in Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon. The win improves RIT to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in the Empire 8. The nine wins is a record for wins in a season and the Tigers clinch a spot in the Empire 8 playoffs.

RIT out shot Hartwick 39-14 and won the ground ball battle 21-10. The Tigers won 12 draw controls to Hartwick's 12 and went 4-for-14 on free position attempts.

#Danielle Previ (Medford, NJ/Shawnee)# (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) led RIT with five points on four goals and an assist. #Allie Coppola (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park)# (Orchard Park, NY) and Elaine Hennigan (Liverpool, NY/CBA) each had two goals. #Ashley Pezze (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland)# (Guilderland, NY) had a goal and two assists, while #Rebecca Lampson (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy)# (Penn Yan, NY) and #Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)# (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) each had a goal and an assist.

Henriksen and Pezze also caused three turnovers and Pezze had a team-high six ground balls. #Kelsey Evans (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley)# (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) picked up her ninth win of the season allowing two goals and making five saves.

RIT struggled to score in the first half, tallying only three goals. Coppola, Hennigan and Henriksen each had goals for the Tigers who led 3-1 at the half.

The Tigers offense woke up in the second half, exploding for 11 goals. RIT ran off the first seven goals of the second half and never looked back. Previ had two goals in that seven-goal run and Pezze had two assists.

Tiffanie Bishop stopped the run with the first of her two goals on the afternoon that made it 10-2 in favor of the Tigers.

Previ scored two staright and Pezze added another for RIT, making it 13-2 Tigers.

The nine wins breaks the mark for wins in a season which was eight, set back in 2000 and in 2007. The Tigers have won five straight games which is also a school record.

RIT will look to make it six in a row when they host SUNY Fredonia on Thursday, April 16 at 4 pm on RIT Field.
