ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team scored 52 first-half points en route to an 80-52 win over SUNY Cobleskill on Friday evening. The win is the eighth straight for the Tigers, improving their record to 16-4 overall.
Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY) led RIT with 19 points and 13 rebounds. It's the senior center's 17th double-double of the season.
The beginning portion of the first half was tight. RIT led throughout but, up until the 7:39 mark of the half the Tigers never led by more than seven points.
With the score 26-24 with 7:39 to play in the half, the Tigers went on a 26-2 run, scoring the final 14 points of the half and led 52-26 at halftime.
Carson had 14 points and 10 rebounds for RIT in the first half.
Shawn Roe (Corning, NY/Corning East) (Corning, NY/Corning East) added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-3 from the three-point land.
The Tigers steadily pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 31. The Tigers shot 61 percent from the floor in the first half and 48 percent for the game.
Roe added 13 points, while
Adam Sweet (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY) chipped in 10 points.
Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service) (Anchorage, AK/Service) scored eight points and dished out five assists off the bench. Freshman
Juan McQueen (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet) (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet) scored his first four collegiate points off the bench.
It was the first meeting between the two schools since the 1941-42 season.
RIT returns to Empire 8 action on Tuesday when they face St. John Fisher College. That game begins at 8 p.m. in Pittsford, New York. RIT defeated the Cardinals 56-36 on January 6 at Clark Gym.
