ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT men's track and field team placed second at the 2009 NYSCTC Championships held at the Gordon Field House on Friday and Saturday.  RIT finished with 146 points, 35 behind champion St. Lawrence.  Senior Mike Hardbarger (Parkersburg, WV/Ritchie County) was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Meet.

Hardbarger anchored the winning 4 x 800-meter relay team, almost came from behind to barely miss winning the mile run, then won the 1,000-meter run despite falling early in the race.  Hardbarger took the 1,000-meters in 2:33.35 despite falling early, and nearly scored a win in the mile.  He lost to Hamilton's Peter Kosgei by three-hundredths of a second in the mile.  Kosgei won the race in 4:12.82.

The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Matt Marion (Lima, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Devin Strehle (Locke, NY/Lansing), Jonathan Sealander (Hannibal, NY/Hannibal) and Brecht Moulin (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) broke a school record in winning with a time of 3:22.69.

Moulin also set a school record in the 500-meters, winning in a time of 1:05.77. 

The 4 x 800-meter relay squad of Mike Kurvach (Victor, NY/Victor), Mike Hardbarger (Parkersburg, WV/Ritchie County), Zach Nelson (Rochester, NY/Victor) and John Holleran (West Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) were victorious in a time of 8:02.40.

Senior Timothy Wesley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was victorious in the shot put with a toss of 14.92 meters.

Jared Burdick (Manilus, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) annexed the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:41.33.

Senior Matt Joseph (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon), set a school record and has a chance to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in the pentathlon, which was actually held on Sunday in Ithaca.  Joseph finished second overall with a school record 3,418 points. Marion finished third in the event with 3,262 points.

Joseph was also second in the 55-meter hurdles, completing the event in 8.01 seconds.

The RIT distance medley team was second in a time of 10:13.82. 

Roman Drymalski was second in the high jump with a leap of 1.97 meters.  Brian Walker (Brockport, NY/Brockport) was fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.70 meters.

Seniors Burdick and Mike Brindak (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) were third and fourth respectively, in the 5,000-meter run.  Burdick qualified for the ECAC Championship with a time of 1:51.69, while Brindak was three seconds behind.

Zach Loughery (Wantage, NJ/High Point) was fourth in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.71 seconds.  Ryan Warner was sixth in the 400-meters with a time of 51.68 seconds. 

The Tigers are back in action next weekend at the ECAC Championships in Boston, Mass.
