COBLESKILL, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team erased an eight point second-half deficit to defeat SUNY Cobleskill 60-51 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers outscored host Cobleskill 25-8 over the last 11:23 to earn their first win of the season. RIT improves to 1-2 on the season.
RIT was led by junior guard
Anthony Terry (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney), who scored 15 points. Senior forward
Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell), chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds on the afternoon.
Brendan Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) added nine points and
Shawn Roe (Corning, NY/Corning East) scored eight for the Tigers.
The Tigers shot 46 percent from the floor on Sunday, including 51.9 percent in the second half. RIT made 6-of-14 from behind the arc and were narrowly out-rebounded by Cobleskill 32-31.
RIT came out and led throughout most of the first half, building a 12-point lead on a layup by co-captain #Adam Sweet. But, Cobleskill battled back, outscoring RIT 22-9 over the final 9:15 of the half to lead 26-25 at the break.
The Tigers trailed by as many as eight points in the second half, but a 25-8 run to close out the game sealed the win. RIT shot 14-of-27 (51.9%) from the floor in the second half, taking the lead for good with 7:12 to play on a bucket by Terry. He scored 13 of his game-high 15 points in the second half to pace the Tigers comeback.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, December 2 when they host cross-town rival the University of Rochester. Tip-off is at 8 pm in Clark Gymnasium and can be seen live on Time Warner Sports Network.
