PLATTSBURGH, NY -- The RIT (0-1) men's basketball team dropped their season opener to Husson College 75-67 at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Plattsburgh State. Senior
Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) scored 22 points in the loss for the Tigers.
The Tigers led by 10 at the half, shooting 58.6% from the floor in the first half. RIT was 17-of-29 from the floor in the first half led by
Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) who had 14 points. Young was 5-of-7 from the floor including 4-of-5 from behind the arc, scoring 14 points.
Shawn Roe (Corning, NY/Corning East) hit a three pointer with 4:30 to play in the opening half to give the Tigers their largest lead at 33-20. He finished with nine first-half points.
Husson opened the second half with a 9-0 run cutting the Tigers lead to one on a layup by Matt McKenzie. Husson took its first lead since early in the first half on a layup by Joshua Jones, The Eagles extended the lead to nine points and made their free throws down the stretch to hold on.
The Tigers went cold from the floor in the second half, shooting 25.9 percent. RIT went 7-of-29 including 2-of-7 from behind the arc.
Young finished with 22 points and four rebounds. Sophomore
Brendan Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Roe finished with 11 points and
Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service) had nine points, five assists and two steals.
RIT will face Norwich University in the consolation game on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm.
