ROCHESTER, NY - Junior Amanda Berg (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) of the RIT women's tennis team was named the Empire 8 Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday for the week ending October 4, 2009. It is Berg's first Empire 8 weekly honor this season. She was previously named the RIT Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 6, and earned Empire 8 weekly honors three times last season.

Berg went 2-0 last week in both singles and doubles.  She went 2-0 against SUNY Geneseo and Nazareth in both singles and doubles.  Berg picked up her ninth and tenth singles wins of the season.  She defeated Monica Vieth of Geneseo, 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 at first singles and crushed Jackeline Martinez of Nazareth at first singles, 6-3, 6-2.  Berg also paired with Alexis Stanley to earn two 8-4 win at first doubles over SUNY Geneseo and Nazareth at first doubles. Berg, the 2008 Empire 8 Player of the Year, is 10-2 at singles and 8-2 in doubles with Stanley this season.  She has never lost a singles match in Empire 8 play.

The Tigers (5-3, 4-1 Empire 8) are right back in action on Monday, as they travel to SUNY Cortland for a match at 3 p.m.
