MOUNT MORRIS, NY - The RIT men's cross country team continued their successful season as they finished second out of 24 teams on Saturday at the 2009 SUNY Geneseo Invitational over the wet 8,000 meter course through Letchworth State Park. The invitational was also the pre-regional race and gave some insight as to how the Tigers stand against teams in the region. The team's total score was 65, while Geneseo won the race with a team score of 23.
The top runner for the men's team was senior
Jared Burdick (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) whowas sixth overall out of 283 runners, completing the course in a time of 25:49. Burdick was also the top runner last week for the Tigers. Teammates
Mike Brindak (Syracuse, NY/Solvay),
Mike Hardbarger (Parkersburg, WV/Ritchie County), and
Nick Meeker (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) followed closely as they came through the line in a tight pack. Brindak, Hardbarger, and Meeker crossed the line 11th, 12th and 13th in 26:11, 26:13, and 26:14 respectively.
Nick Lowe (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) was the fifth runner for RIT coming in 28th overall at 26:34.
When asked how he felt about the performance of the team, Coach Dave Warth responded “This a step in our process towards our goals for the end of the year.”
The Tigers are back in action on October 17, when they travel to Albany to compete in the SUNY Albany Invitational.
