Men's swimming opens season with win at Oswego

OSWEGO, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team opened the 2009-10 campaign in fine fashion, winning at SUNY Oswego 148-100.

The Tigers picked up their first win in 1000-yard freestyle. Steve Rois (Amherst, NY/Amherst High School) picked up the win for RIT in a time of 10:42.36. Rois finished up his night with a win in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:10.27.

Kevin Christiansen (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and Ryan Marchant (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) kept it rolling for RIT, going first and second in the 200-yard freestyle. Christiansen won the event in a time of 1:55.28. Marchant came home second in a time of 1:56.48.

AJ Broderick (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) and Frank Zelinger (Schwenksville, PA/The Hill School) took home another 11 points for the Tigers with a one-two finish in the 200-yard IM. Broderick won the event in a time of 2:05.74, while Zelinger was second in a time of 2:10.39.

Marchant (56.07) and Zelinger (56.93) were first and second in the 100-yard butterfly.

RIT clinched the win with a win in the in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Ryan Brannon, Christiansen, Broderick and Jeff Kaemmerlen (Fairport, NY/Fairport) came home first in a time of 1:30.53.

The Tigers return home for a meet Saturday, October 31 versus SUNY Fredonia at 1 pm at Judson Pool.
