ROCHESTER, NY
– The RIT women's soccer team topped tenth ranked University of Rochester (10-3-1), 2-1 in non-conference action on Tuesday. Coming into today's contest, the Tigers were 1-19-0 all-time against the Yellojackets and are now 2-1-0 since 2007.

The Yellowjackets outshot the Tigers 16-13 and had three corner kicks to RIT's one. The Tigers committed 13 fouls to U of R's 10.

Rochester struck first in the 11th minute on a goal from Ellen Coleman. Kirsten Ross sent a ball through the box, that landed at Coleman's feet, where she fired a shot past goalkeeper Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) to make the score 1-0.

RIT came out much more spirited in the second half, tying the score in the 49th minute off a free kick from Sarah Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia). She sent the free kick into the box, where Ashley Pezze (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) out leaped the Yellowjackets defender and headed the ball past the goalkeeper. This marks Pezze's third goal on the season.

With less than 10 minutes to play in regulation RIT was called for a foul inside its own penalty box. Bridgette Varin appeared to score but a Yellowjacket player moved to early nullifying the goal. Varin's second attempt was tipped wide by Valenti, keeping the score tied.

Allyson Pisher (Holley, NY/Holley) gave RIT a 2-1 lead with 1:40 remaining in regulation with her unassisted goal. She chipped the ball from 15 yards outside the box, which sailed over the head of the goalkeeper and found the back of the net. This was Pisher's fourth goal of the season, and her 11th point of the season.

The RIT defense played an outstanding second half, only allowing four shots, enabling Valenti to secure her seventh win of the season.

The Tigers play their final regular season match at #12 William Smith on Saturday at 2 p.m.
