NEW YORK, NY - The RIT volleyball squad (17-14) got off to a strong start at the second annual Baruch Invitational Tournament, defeating Manhattanville in three sets, 25-10, 25-10, 25-8, then dispatching Marymount in five sets, 19-25, 25-12, 25-21, 16-25, 15-9.
In the win over Manhattanville,
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) led the offense with eight kills, while hitting .583, while Victoria Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) added seven kills. Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) recorded 15 assists and five aces. Senior
Ashlie Baker (Northridge, UT/Northridge) hit .714 with five kills, while
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) added four kills and four aces.
Audrey DiPoala (Victor, NY/Victor) compiled six digs.
The Tigers hit a season-best .466 in the win over Manhattanville.
Petko led the way once again with 15 kills and six blocks in the win over Marymount, while
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) had 13 kills. Worth added 35 assists and five blocks, while freshman
Melanie Springer (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) led the team with 11 digs.
Cristine Schiavello (West Chester, PA/Unionville) recorded five service aces, while Cooper and
Alli Kamsch (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) slammed seven and six kills, respectively.
The Tigers are right back in action on Sunday, closing out play in the Baruch Invitational with matches against Elmira at 11 a.m. and Richard Stockton at 1 p.m.
