ROCHESTER, NY - In what is becoming a weekly occurance, freshman forward/center #Sharon Dennis (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)# (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) of the RIT women's basketball team, was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week on Monday for the week ending January 4, 2009 for the fifth straight time. 

Dennis posted her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season for RIT over the weekend, averaging 16.0 ppg and 16.5 rpg . She scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a 78-58 loss to Utica on Friday. She followed that up with 16 points and 17 rebounds in a 65-53 loss to Elmira on Saturday.

Dennis is fourth in the nation in rebounds per game, averaging 14.3 per game.  She is averaging 16.2 points, 3.6 blocks and 2.6 steals per contest, while shooting 48 percent from the field.

The Tigers (3-6, 0-3 Empire 8) return to the court on Tuesday against conference foe St. John Fisher.  The home contest begins at 6 p.m.  RIT also hosts Ithaca on Sunday at 12 p.m.
