ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT wrestling team improved to 4-6 in 2008-09 after crushing SUNY Morrisville, 40-7 at Clark Gym on Wednesday evening. RIT won four matches by forfeit and eight matches overall.
Freshman
#Shin Wakabayashi (Rochester, NY/Brighton)# (Rochester, NY/Brighton) picked up the win at 125 lbs., defeating Joe Lanza, 7-1. It is his second collegiate win.
#Jason Wake (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy)# (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy),
#John Durfee (Rutland, VT/Fair Haven Union)# (Rutland, VT/Fair Haven Union) and
#Stephan Avorkliya (Charlotte, NC/East Mecklenburg)# (Charlotte, NC/East Mecklenburg) also picked up wins. Wake won by major decision to move to 19-7, while Avorkliya recorded his sixth pin of the season.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, as they travel to Thiel College to compete at the Mel Berry Duals at 1 p.m.
