ROCHESTER, NY -- Junior goaltender
Jared DeMichiel (Avon, Conn./Chicago Steel) (Avon, CT/Chicago Steel) was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week for the week ending December 7, 2008. It is DeMichiel's first AHA honor this season.
DeMichiel stopped 61-of-65 shots last weekend, allowing just four goals to the #12 Air Force Falcons, who were the highest scoring team in the nation heading into the weekend.
On Friday, DeMichiel stopped 22-of-24 shots in a 2-0 loss. The following night, he turned aside a career high 39 shots, several of the spectacular variety, while holding Air Force to 1-of-8 on the power-play in a 3-2 overtime win. He helped RIT stop over three minutes of 5-on-3 penalty time in the third period. In addition, DeMichiel recorded his first assist of the season on RIT's fi rst goal Saturday.
DeMichiel has 4-4-0 record on the season and has allowed 22 goals and made 228 saves. The junior netminder has a 2.56 GAA on the year and a .912 save percentage.
RIT will face Mercyhurst College in a battle of second-place teams in the AHA this weekend in a two-game series this Friday and Saturday at Ritter.
